Surf Rock

Surf Rock

Surf Rock is a style of rock music influenced by the surf culture in South California during the early 60s. Surf rock, also known as ‘Surf Music’ and ‘Surf Pop’ was pioneered by Dick Dale and the Del-Tones in 1961 originally as ‘Instrumental Surf’. The surf sound was then made popular by vocal groups such as Jan and Dean and The Beach Boys who sung about surfing but evolved later to include vocals about cars and girls and became known as ‘Hot Rod Rock’.
